Add a chat to your website
Put Ricky's web chat on your public website or on your team's internal site.
The web chat puts a chat bubble on your site. What visitors write arrives in Conversations like any other channel, and your AI agents and team answer it. You need no Meta account and no templates: you can reply at any time.
Create your chat
- Open Web chat.
- Write the chat's name and greeting, and choose its color and language.
- In Allowed websites, write the addresses where you will use it, one per line. For example
https://www.yourcompany.com. The chat only loads on those sites. - Choose who can use it:
- Any visitor, for your public site.
- Verified people only, for your team's internal site.
- Select Create chat. The preview shows how it will look.
Install it on your site
- In the Installation tab, copy the code from step 1.
- Paste it on your site before
</body>, on every page where you want the chat. - Open your site and check that the bubble appears.
Choose which agent answers
Create a workflow that starts when a conversation opens in your web chat and add the Hand off to an AI agent step. Without it, conversations arrive in the inbox and your team answers them.
Internal sites: verified people only
With Verified people only, the chat opens only when your site identifies the person. Your server signs a JWT with the identity secret shown in the Installation tab. The token carries:
sub: the person's id on your site.nameandemail: optional; Ricky uses them for the contact.exp: when it expires. Use a few hours, 30 days at most.
Your page hands the token to the chat before the chat code:
<script>
window.RickyWebchat = { identityToken: '<token signed by your server>' };
</script>Keep the secret on your server only. If it leaks, generate a new one from Installation: tokens signed with the old one stop working.
Limits
With Any visitor, each visitor can send up to 8 messages a minute and 150 a day, so nobody can spend your AI credits with automated messages. Verified people only has no such limit. Each message can be up to 2,000 characters.
Turn the chat off
In Web chat, select Turn off chat. The chat stops loading on your site and its conversations stay in the inbox.
